As of this writing, Amazon is offering the 300 lb CAP Barbell weight set (in black) for $199.98 w/free delivery. This is a solid deal if you’re looking to have cheap Olympic weights delivered to your front door.
Yes, the barbell that comes with this set is kind of crappy, but the plates – which come in the traditional “Standard Barbell” style – are just fine. This set includes the following Olympic plates:
- 2 x 45 lb plates
- 2 x 35 lb plates
- 2 x 25 lb plates
- 2 x 10 lb plates
- 4 x 5 lb plates
- 2 x 2.5 lb plates
That’s 255 lbs of iron plus a cheap 45 lb barbell for $199.98 shipped. While I’m not a huge fan of 35 lb Olympic plates, they do their job (i.e., they add weight to the bar) and there’s nothing wrong with them. I just wouldn’t go out of my way to buy them separately.
For the sake of comparison, the equivalent combination of plates (with no barbell) would cost $349 from FringeSport (w/free shipping). From Rogue, you’d pay $319.75 plus $110-$150 in shipping, depending where you live. Yes, you’d get name brand plates but, for the most part, iron is iron.

The weights might be a bit more precise with name brand gear like the Troy Barbell stuff sold by FringeSport or the Rogue Fitness plates but… None of these are competition plates, so none will be super precise. For general training purposes, they will all perform similarly.
While Black Friday may see improved pricing from their competitors, you’re unlikely to see a better out-the-door price for an equivalent package from any vendor. This is especially true if you’re looking to have it delivered vs. hauling it home yourself from a big box store like Dick’s or Academy.
Keep in mind that prices vary, and that Amazon often charges somewhere in the $300-$400 range for this same set. So, if you’re in the market for cheap Olympic weights, jump on this deal while you still can.
